Ministry Teams

Ministry teams are responsible for much of what gets done at CPC. Teams are led by one or more elders and consist of members and visitors who are interested in getting involved in a certain aspect of the church. Please join us!

Spiritual Growth Ministries

Worship and Music Team

Co-Chairs: Laurel Stoddard and Susan Fernandez

We gather every week to open our souls to God and to open our doors to all. Including our fabulous choir, about 30 volunteers help create these sacred gatherings. The Worship Team ensures that the flow of each service supports the liturgical calendar, relevant

current church events, and the mission of the church. In addition to Sunday services, the Worship Team supports special services during Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter.

Activities: Choir and special music, Communion prep and serving, changing paraments and inside banners, special decorations, set up for special services, training and enlisting liturgists (readers), and operating livestream of worship

Spiritual Formation Team

Co-Chairs: Will Slade and Janelle Collier

Our Spiritual Formation team provides faith-building programs such as Bible studies, social issues classes and small groups. On Sunday mornings, while adults are in worship, our children engage with Scripture with hands-on activities. Our children’s choir rehearses each week at the end of this Sunday school hour. Our youth engage in service projects, retreats, and mission trips.

Activities: Adult Sunday School, Lenten Book Studies, “About Town” activities, Children’s Sunday School, and Youth Group

Outreach Ministries

Evangelism (E-Team) / Membership

Chair: Brian Taylor

Welcoming new members, creating opportunities for members to connect to one another, and maintaining the church rolls, this team helps our church grow in Christ’s love. This team leads small groups, tracks membership, and invites new members to experience CPC through social media and advertising.  This team reaches out to the community through SXSW, Austin Film Festival, Texas Book Festival, and other events at CPC.

Activities: Website and social media, Bread ministry, Ushers and Greeters, Banners

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Chair: Bonnie Clemons with Frances Ferguson as the Session Liaison

The Neighbors Helping Neighbors Team is an active group of church members and community volunteers. They operate Central Mission, which serves breakfast to 80 unhoused neighbors each week. They lead the congregation in collecting clothing donations for neighbors and offering fellowship for our neighbors.

Activities: Cold Weather Shelter, Central Mission, Public advocacy for our neighbors, holiday events for neighbors.

Mission

The Mission Team partners with local nonprofit organizations to provide donations and community service. Some of our partners include Manos de Cristo, Interfaith Action of Texas, the Multicultural Refugee Coalition, and Presbyterian Children’s Home and Services.

Activities: Share the Love Mission Market, CROP Walk, Dessert Auction, At Home Mission Week, Pride Festival, NAMI Walk

Stewardship Ministries

The Stewardship team strives to inspire faith-based generosity that supports the goals, objectives and vision of CPC.
Activities: Stewardship campaigns

Finance Team

Co-Chairs: Susan Richter and Frances Ferguson 

Treasurer: Willyn Wahl Cherry

To ensure your monetary gifts are faithfully and responsibly used, our Finance Team carefully reviews the budget, submits monthly financial reports to the Session, and oversees the church’s financial policies.
Activities: Counting money on Sundays, tracking all financials

Personnel Team

Co-Chairs: Jim Furgeson and Kevin Cruser

Supports the staff of the church and hires new personnel as needed.

Activities: Advertises open positions, interviews new personnel, manages performance reviews for staff.

Support Ministries

Facilities Team

Co-Chairs: Mark Hastings and Linda Kreutz

This team is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the entire Central Presbyterian Church campus to excellently serve our programs and community.
Activities: Constantly maintaining and upgrading our church building and grounds to provide welcoming, clean, safe, functional spaces for a wide variety of church and community activities.

Safety and Security Team

Co-Chairs: Mark Hastings and Kevin Cruser

The Safety and Security Team works to ensure the safety of all those who attend worship or other activities at CPC.

Redevelopment Commission

Co-Chairs: John Nyfeler and Tom Collins (not on session)

The Redevelopment Commission seeks to increase the functionality and value of our property while expanding our ministries.

Deacons

Chair: Ashley Quiring

The Board of Deacons cares for and nurtures the congregation by helping families with new babies or health concerns, organizing the monthly pot-luck luncheons, and sending cards of encouragement and appreciation to our members.
