Music

A Community of Song

At Central Presbyterian Church, worship and community are at the heart of who we are — a joyful response to God’s grace and a celebration of Christ’s presence among us. Grounded in Scripture and shaped by the Reformed tradition, our worship seeks to honor God with both reverence and creativity.

Music is one of the ways we offer our praise and deepen our connection with God and one another. Drawing from the rich traditions of the Church and the diverse sounds of our community, our music ministry explores hymns, psalms, and songs ancient and new. We believe every voice matters — the congregation is our primary choir — and together we lift every voice and sing the good news through word, prayer, and song.

At Central, worship engages heart, mind, and spirit. Energized by word and song, we gather to encounter God’s love and be sent out to share it with our neighbors, community, and world.

Our Ensembles

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is a vibrant ensemble of volunteer singers from our congregation, supported by professional section leaders from our Austin community. Directed by André Trahan, our Director of Music, the choir leads worship every Sunday throughout the year (with a brief summer break) and participates in special services and seasonal celebrations. Each year, the choir also presents one or two major works, often accompanied by orchestra, brass, and/or organ.

Rehearsals are held Wednesday evenings from 7:00–8:30 p.m., and new singers are always welcome. Members often say that the choir is one of the warmest communities in our church, offering fellowship and community, a place to grow in faith, and a musically fulfilling environment.

Handbell Ensemble

Our handbell ensemble contributes to worship on select Sundays and special occasions throughout the year. Instead of holding a regular weekly rehearsal, we prepare music as needed based on ringer availability and the demands of upcoming services.

If you’re interested in ringing — whether you’re experienced or brand-new to handbells — we’d love to find a place for you. Basic music-reading skills are needed, and prior ensemble experience (such as band or choir) is helpful.

To learn more or to get involved, please contact our Handbell Director, Susan Richter.
