Announcing the Central Legacy Fund

The stewardship of all of life is a core value for Presbyterians. Life is a gift from God and we are called to use our lives wisely to benefit the common good which in turn gives glory to God. The gospel challenges us to be wise stewards of our time, talents and resources.

The Central Legacy Fund of Central Presbyterian Church was established by the session of the church in 2016 as an avenue for our members and friends to exercise good stewardship. The primary objective of the fund is to offer the CPC congregation and to others an extra dimension of stewardship beyond pledging. This fund is organized and managed to give its benefactors the confidence that their financial gifts will be handled wisely and that the proceeds will be used to further the mission of Central Presbyterian Church well beyond our own lifetimes. The income that will be generated by this fund will touch many lives and will be a cause for giving glory to God in perpetuity.

Stewardship is the responsibility of every member of the congregation. Jesus said, “To whom much is given, much will be expected.” The Central Legacy Fund provides an additional means for us to respond to that challenge.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the first step in giving a special gift (outright, estate or endowment) to CPC?

First, decide if you want to give a gift during your lifetime. If so, consult your accountant for the best way to gain the most tax benefit from your gift. Next, if you prefer to give your gift upon your death, consult your attorney and put it in writing in your will or trust. Inform the Legacy Fund about your gift. The Central Legacy Fund Committee may have suggested language for you to ensure that your wishes are honored.

How much money or property can I give and receive Federal Tax Credit?

There is a percentage limitation on the amount that an individual may give and still be deductible for income tax purposes. However, the entire amount of your gift via your will or trust will be exempt from estate taxes.

Can I designate how my gift will be used?

Yes, you may designate how you would like your gift to be used by the church. We suggest that you consult with a member of the Central Legacy Fund Committee to ensure that your wishes are understood and can be fulfilled. You may also have your gift designated to the General Endowment Fund benefiting the entire church.

Where is the money in the fund currently held?

Our funds are currently invested in the Texas Presbyterian Foundation, a non-profit agency of the Synod of the Sun, with more than $825 million in managed accounts and planned gifts.
