Legacy Sunday remarks
Carmine Salvucci’s remarks for Legacy Sunday, May 8, 2016
We heard from Steve Brister last week how important our annual pledges and gifts are to the mission and ministries of this church. And I believe each of us gives because Central is such an important part of our lives – for some of us, it has been an important part of our life for generations.
At some point, we all think about the legacy we hope to leave behind in the world– how we might leave this earth a better place than when we found it. And certainly our annual tithing is an important part of that. Another important part is how we might continue to help, long after we’re gone, through our estate plan.
Your children and your family, Central Presbyterian, your university and other favorite charities – you might consider supporting the future well being of one or all of these in gratitude for their importance in your life.
Today is Legacy Sunday – a time to stop and think about your legacy. Remember The Lancaster Family? The children of Rose and Jim established a fund here at Central Presbyterian to support Central Mission – the ministry serving our downtown neighbors – that was so important to them during their life. And their spirit lives on through these gifts.
This is their legacy. For others, it might be helping our music program. And for others, providing for our youth or Christian education programs. For each of us, what we are able to do and where we hope to make a lasting impact will be different.
And that is why we have created the Central Legacy Fund – to encourage you to remember CPC through a special gift now or your estate plan in whatever way is meaningful to you, and to assure you that your generosity will be used as you intend.
We are so grateful for your ongoing gifts – they are critical to keeping the work and worship of this church alive.
But on this Legacy Sunday, I ask you to just take a moment and think beyond who you are now, and who we are now, and instead think about what you hope we will be for future generations who come through our doors.
Whether a gift through your estate plan, or a special one-time gift outside of your annual pledge today, Central Presbyterian Church will be stronger in the future thanks to the generosity of all of us in this sanctuary today.
If you have questions about the many ways you can support Central, please contact one of our pastors or Chuck Kreutz on the Central Legacy Fund Committee.
