Title: Director of Music Ministry
Terms of Employment: Part-time position, average of 20 hours per week.
Audition required. Rehearse a piece that the choir knows well (10-15 minutes), and bring a
piece to introduce to the choir (10-15 minutes). Provide the accompanist with this piece ahead
of time.
Salary: $30,000 – $35,000 per year commensurate with experience
Purpose: To provide leadership and support for the Church’s music programs.
Accountability: Accountable to the head pastor.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Music Degree. Sacred Music Degree or certification is preferred, but not
required.
• Have a wide range of knowledge in sacred music and worship planning.
• Have a high level of musicianship and choral/instrumental conducting ability.
• Knowledge of and ability to implement choral vocal technique.
• Be able to play for and lead a sectional rehearsal as needed.
• Good communication and organizational skills.
• Work well with others.
• Willingness to explore innovative ways of growing the music ministry.
• Pass criminal background check.
Responsibilities:
• Rehearse and conduct the adult choir comprised of approximately 25 church members
and 4 paid section leaders for one service and rehearsal per week. More rehearsals may
be needed for special worship services such as during Advent and Holy week.
• Recruit and maintain music personnel and choir members.
• Long-range planning for worship services and special seasonal music. May include larger
works with soloists and instrumentalists or handbells.
• Review, select and purchase music that follows the church lectionary and reflects a
diversity of styles.
• Supervise all music staff members, i.e., collaborative pianist/organist, children’s choir
director and paid adult choir section leaders.
• Coordinate children and possibly youth music programs.
• Consult with pastor on hymn selection.
• Program, hire and rehearse instrumentalists for special worship services.
• Coordinate music for services when choir is on summer vacation.
• Oversee music budget.
• Attend Worship Committee meetings.
• Arrange for maintenance and tuning of pianos, organ and handbells as needed.
• Maintain music library and copyright reporting to appropriate entities for live-streaming
worship services.
• Stay current on Covid pandemic information and safety protocols, especially for singers.
Be flexible with “in person” versus “virtual church.” Knowledge of and experience with
basic audio/video technology is a plus.
• Other duties as requested by the head pastor.
