Legacy Sunday remarks

Carmine Salvucci’s remarks for Legacy Sunday, May 8, 2016

We heard from Steve Brister last week how important our annual pledges and gifts are to the mission and ministries of this church.  And I believe each of us gives because Central is such an important part of our lives – for some of us, it has been an important part of our life for generations.

CPC Refugee Welcome Team — Request for Donations

We need the items listed below to support our new Refugee Family, when it arrives.

  • If you can donate one or more items, please let us know by contacting the person listed below.
  • Please also send a cc to: Cleon Dunham.
  • For furniture items, they can be brought to a temporary storage facility in South Austin (contact Joe for information) or we can pick them up from your place.
  • For other items you can bring them to the Church or we can pick them up.
  • Please let us know your preference.
  • If we pick them up, we’d like to do it just before the Family arrives (we don’t know when that will be).

If you would prefer to make a financial donation so we can purchase the items, that will be good too.

Their concern is for the volunteers at our Central Mission on Thursday mornings, for children who are upstairs above Smoot Hall while their parents attend ESL classes, for the staff during the course of the week, as well as for fellow worshippers who come to Sunday services expecting to find a safe place surrounded by symbols that point them to God. Believing that there is a time and place for everything, it is the opinion of the Session that church is not the best place for the presence of guns.
