ZOOM - Spiritual Formation Class: The Nicene Creed
January 8, 2026 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm
COME CELEBRATE THE 1700th BIRTHDAY OF THE NICENE CREED! It’s the oldest creed of them all! The Presbyterian Church (USA)’s Book of Confessions begins with it. It’s the earliest and most central statement declaration of what Christians have believed since 325 BCE.
Our first adult Sunday School class will usher in the creed’s 1701st year. So, come, learn the ancient history taking place in Nicea, a little town in modern Turkey. Uncover its complicated political and theological context during Rome’s last days, as well as its significance for the church today. It’s a history we know little about—so you’re invited to begin a new year by learning something that’s really worth knowing! Grab a warm drink, put on your slippers and comfy lounge clothes. Eating supper during class is just fine!
Contact Mary if you’re interested in joining or have have any questions. 514-514-0141, mlvswierenga@gmail.com.
The book for the class is Tokens of Trust: An Introduction to Christian Belief by Rowan Williams, the former Archbishop of Canterbury.
